Fall Weekend Do: Beachside S’mores

There’s nothing like delicious s’mores cooked on an open flame to celebrate fall.

While the rest of the country may look forward to a fall that includes leaves changing color, crisp air, and wood burning stoves, us So Cal girls have our eye on something slightly different. When our season “changes,” we jump at the opportunity to spoil ourselves with fall activities. We finally get to layer up for local hikes. Beanies take the place of straw sun hats on the beach. Evening footwear moves from sandals to booties and dresses are layered with light leather jackets. Backyard fire pits are finally open for the season, beckoning outdoor cocktail parties. The once sun-drenched LA beaches are now littered with friends hovered around bonfires.

Yes, Southern California receives great weather all year round. But fall gifts us with somewhat cooler weather and you better believe we take full advantage of the slight dip in temperature.

One of our favorite fall activities is indulging in beachside s’mores.

There is something extra special about sweets cooked over an open fire. This year we loaded up our cars and headed to Dockweiler State Beach, just north of Manhattan Beach. Dockweiler is one of Southern California’s most sought after beaches, as it is home to almost four miles of ocean frontage and nearly 400 acres of beach. People from all over So Cal rush to Dockweiler to partake in activities, ranging from hang gliding, picnicking, diving, fishing, and surfing to rollerskating and bike riding on the gorgeous beach bike path. This was the perfect spot to welcome fall with a bonfire and delicious s’mores.
